Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder says he was clear with Billy Sharp after leaving him out for defeat to West Ham yesterday.

Wilder explained in detail why Sharp didn't make the bench for the day.

He said, "Rhian Brewster is the future of the football club. I usually have three forwards on the bench, but with John Egan having had concussion and John Fleck back from injury I needed to cover those positions.

"Had to go with Robinson, Lundstram and Osborn to cover positions. Unfortunate for the skipper, but as I said to him he now gets judged as a skipper than at any time. It's quite easy when you are playing and everything is going fine.

"Now he has to lead as captain. He's disappointed, I get that, but we needed to have pace on the bench in Burke in case we were leading and wanted to stretch the game and Rhian is the future, so I went with two on the bench instead of three."
