Dimitri Payet’s bullet of a volley in Marseille’s 2-1 win over PAOK in the Europa Conference League went viral on Thursday evening.
The Frenchman’s incredible strike even coaxed a response out of Sheffield United utility man Ben Osborn.
The 27-year-old has been back in action for the Blades in the last month or so, after missing a large portion of the opening months of 2022 under Paul Heckingbottom.
Osborn’s response to Payet’s goal offered some self-deprecating humour as he shared some footage of himself, on Twitter, having a similar shooting chance for the Blades, to the one that Payet dispatched into the top corner last night.
Osborn posted: “Same energy.”
It certainly is not the best strike from range Osborn will ever hit in his career but it is nice to see him share the funny side.
The 27-year-old is out of contract in the summer and will be hoping to show Paul Heckingbottom why he deserves an extension in the closing stages of the campaign.
Osborn seemed to be in favour a lot more under Slavisa Jokanovic, despite his high energy style of play appearing to epitomise how Heckingbottom is trying to get Sheffield United promoted.
The versatile midfielder will be hoping to play some part when the Blades host second placed Bournemouth on Saturday.

Payet has always been a scorer of great goals, so it was nice to see him hit the headlines with that thunderbolt after what has been a quiet, by his standards, last couple of years on the pitch at Marseille.
Osborn does come across very well on social media and is clearly a very grounded individual, despite picking up bags of Championship and Premier League minutes in the last few seasons.
It will be interesting to see which way the Blades and Heckingbottom lean in the summer, with Osborn’s versatility clearly very helpful to the squad, but having struggled to nail down a starting berth under the former Barnsley manager with his more notable performances coming towards the beginning of the campaign.
