The midfielder was the subject of much Leeds United interest in the summer, but he was not for sale.

Gustavo Hamer has been impressive since he arrived at Sheffield United last summer from Coventry City.

The former Netherlands U20 international has made a real impact on the Blades and has amassed nearly 50 appearances for the club.

Hamer is a real asset in central midfield - both in a deeper quarter-back role and further forward with more of a license to attack.

He was a real fan's favourite during his time at Coventry and was rewarded for his performances with a move to the Premier League with Sheffield United. Unfortunately for both Hamer and the Blades, they were relegated without putting up too much of a fight, despite some decent showings from the 27-year-old.

Now back in the Championship, the midfielder has imprinted himself onto the division, scoring twice already this season.

Football League World has taken a look at where Hamer ranks compared to other star players in the Championship in terms of their valuation, using TransferMarkt's Market Value tool.

Hamer is one of the most valuable players in the Championship

Sheffield United paid a reported £15 million to the Sky Blues for the services of the then 26-year-old in August 2023, with Hamer signing on a four-year deal.

But how much is he valued at by TransferMarkt?

The Brazilian-born midfielder has a market value of €15 million on the website, which converts to just under £12.7 million.

This is down from the price that was paid for him last summer, but there are reasons behind that, most namely, relegation.

Hamer scored four goals and picked up six assists in the Premier League in 2023/24, finding the back of the net on his debut against Nottingham Forest in a 2-1 defeat.

The Blades conceded far too many times last season, and that was the biggest reason behind their relegation. Their new midfielder was not able to help in a full capacity defensively and was mainly used in a more attacking role, with Vinicius Souza sat in the defensive midfield role.

Nevertheless, Hamer is still one of the most valuable players in the Championship, and according to TransferMarkt, he is joint fifth in their list throughout the entire division.

Burnley's Aaron Ramsey and Josh Brownhill, Pascal Strujik from Leeds United and Norwich City's Callum Doyle also have a market value of €15 million.

Among those ahead of him is Blades teammate Anel Ahmedhodzic.

Hamer was chased ferociously by Leeds in the summer

A transfer saga surrounded Hamer in the summer, with Leeds targeting the midfielder after they failed to win promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.

As per Alan Nixon via Patreon, Sheffield United set an £18 million asking price on the head of the 27-year-old, with the Whites coming close to this fee on one occasion.

Daniel Farke's side submitted a £13 million bid days before the transfer window closed, however, this was rejected, according to The Star.

It later emerged that Leeds offered an exchange deal with the Blades, with Joel Piroe the player that would have made his way to Bramall Lane in place of Hamer. This was categorically denied by the Whites, and Hamer has remained in Sheffield.
