Sheffield United have had a bid for Bailey Cadamarteri turned down, with Ipswich Town and Preston also keen on the Sheffield Wednesday star.
Sheffield United have submitted a shock transfer bid for Sheffield Wednesday striker Bailey Cadamarteri, with a whole host of other Championship clubs such as Preston North End and Ipswich Town lurking.
Owls hotshot Cadamarteri has attracted plenty of interest over the summer, with Blackburn Rovers quickly having a bid to sign him rejected, as the Yorkshire side refuses to play ball with the idea of a potential exit.
However, a shock competitor has emerged in the race to sign the Leeds-born striker, with Steel City rivals Sheffield United also having a bid rejected late in the transfer window, according to a fresh update by The Star, with Preston and Ipswich also lurking.
The soon-to-be Jamaica international has been an integral part of a threadbare Sheffield Wednesday squad so far this season, and the crisis club are keen to retain the striker beyond Monday's 7pm deadline.
Cadamarteri has featured in all four of Wednesday's opening league games, as their thin squad struggles to keep up with the demands of the Championship, and an EFL Cup run which saw them knock out Premier League Leeds United.
The 20-year-old has already opened his account this season, and is highly-rated by not only his own club, but a whole host of Championship clubs, who are interested in signing him before the transfer window closes.
According to The Star, Blackburn and, shockingly, bitter rivals Sheffield United have both lodged bids in the region of £1 million for Cadamarteri, but both were quickly rejected as the Owls maintain their firm stance on one of their top prospects' future.
It will be seen as somewhat of a cheeky approach from the Blades hierarchy, who are evidently looking to take advantage of their bitter rivals' precarious situation to try and snag one of their top young talents.
However, there are still plenty of clubs lurking in the background that are yet to make a bid, The Star has also suggested, meaning that Sheffield Wednesday might still have some work to do to keep the youngster at the club.
Championship duo Ipswich and Preston North End are also said to have made contact with the Yorkshire club over a potential late swoop for Cadamarteri's services, but it remains unclear whether any formal bids have been launched by these two clubs yet.
It is unlikely however that the Lilywhites will be making any sort of permanent move for the striker - son of former Premier League forward Danny Cadamarteri - with manager Paul Heckingbottom confirming that any incomings at Deepdale will be in the form of temporary loans.
It seems that the 20-year-old's future will go right down to the wire, with late interest coming from across the Championship giving Wednesdayites cause for concern heading into the final 24 hours of the transfer window.
The Owls will reportedly have their resolve tested further over the remaining hours of the transfer window, despite them remaining intent on keeping one of their most exciting prospects.
