Sheffield United believe Iliman Ndiaye’s representatives are prepared to allow him to enter the final year of his contract before potentially engineering their client a move away from Bramall Lane, according to a report from The Star.

The Senegal international has been in fine form for the Blades this term, recording 10 goals and eight assists in 29 competitive appearances with the player making an impact at both a domestic and international level.

Also performing well for Aliou Cisse’s side at the World Cup during the latter stages of last year, he is continuing to rise and could potentially end up in the Premier League next season, with or without his current side who are firmly in the automatic promotion mix at this stage.

His contract at Bramall Lane expires in 2024 and with this, the Blades may need to sell him either this month or in the summer if they want to avoid the risk of losing him for nothing.

Everton are reportedly interested in striking a deal for him this month – but United may be keen to keep him beyond this window with the club currently under a transfer embargo and unable to bring in a decent replacement if the 22-year-old did leave before the deadline.

Ndiaye’s representatives may not push for a move away this month – but it remains to be seen whether they will be happy to see him remain in South Yorkshire beyond the summer.

The Verdict:

It will be interesting to see what United do because they won’t want to risk losing both Ndiaye and Sander Berge for free in 2024 and that’s why they may be open to selling them in the summer.

For now though, manager Paul Heckingbottom will be urging the board to keep both of them, especially with the club under an embargo and being the subject of a takeover offer.

On-pitch stability is needed to compensate for this off-field disruption – and they will be able to maintain this stability by keeping their key players including Ndiaye who has been a real asset this term.

They may already have a decent amount of firepower – but Billy Sharp shouldn’t be expected to score every week, Oli McBurnie isn’t guaranteed to be in top form between now and the end of the season, Rhian Brewster is out injured, Reda Khadra has left the club and the likes of Daniel Jebbison and Will Osula are still inexperienced.

With this, Ndiaye may be needed if the Blades want to give themselves the best chance of staying in the top two.
