Sheffield United are interested in signing Shea Charles from Southampton, even despite his connection to Sheffield Wednesday.
Southampton recently made their intentions clear to recall Shea Charles from his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday. The Saints youngster had impressed in the Championship, playing under former Southampton coach Danny Rohl.
Despite his impressive loan spell, it was Southampton who owned the rights to him all along. With Russell Martin deeming it best to keep Charles on loan, the Saints owners clearly changed their mind and as of right now, he could become a Southampton player again.
However, it might not be for much longer. Indeed, the incentive for bringing Charles back to the club might be to cash in on him.
According to a report from Danny Hall of The Star, Sheffield United are currently considering signing Southampton star Shea Charles. It would be an incredible move from Sheffield United, considering his very recent history with their city rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Despite the news of Southampton recalling Shea Charles, the 21-year-old might still play for the Owls this weekend against Leeds. So, there remains an element of confusion about the timeframe of his deal.
Nevertheless, Sheffield United are considering a potential move for Charles. Of course, a lot would need to go in their favour, but it would certainly rub more salt into the wounds of their Steel City rivals.
It would be a move which would ultimately benefit Southampton. After all, the Saints might need a big reshuffle, either this window or in the summer transfer window.
If we're being realistic, Southampton are bound to get relegated this season. So, picking up as much additional budget as we can get is a wise move for the Saints. Then, this money could be reinvested to build a strong Championship team.
