Aston Villa and West Ham are both interested in signing Sheffield United midfielder Oliver Arblaster in the summer transfer window.

That's according to a report from The Daily Telegraph, who say that interest is growing in the 20-year-old.

Arblaster came through the youth ranks at Sheffield United, and made a handful of appearances for the club last season as they won promotion from the Championship.

The midfielder was then loaned out to Port Vale in last summer's transfer window. He went on to impress for the League One side, and made 26 appearances in all competitions.

However, he was then recalled to Bramall Lane after missing several weeks of action due to injury, and after completing his recovery, Arblaster has gone on to make nine Premier League appearances since March.

Although he has been unable to prevent the club suffering an immediate relegation back to the Championship next season, the young midfielder has caught the eye regardless and has even captained the Blades multiple times already in a real show of faith by Chris Wilder.

Now though, it seems that his impressive form means the Sheffield United midfielder could once again be on the move when the transfer market reopens.

West Ham and Aston Villa eyeing Sheffield United's Oliver Arblaster

According to this latest update, a number of clubs still in the the top flight of English football are now taking an interest in Arblaster.

It is claimed that Aston Villa and West Ham are among the clubs who are closely monitoring the 20-year-old, with the transfer window just a few weeks away from officially opening.

Arblaster only signed a new long-term contract with Sheffield United earlier this year, which secures his future at Bramall Lane until the end of the 2027/28 season.

As a result, the Blades will be in a strong position to respond to any offer that comes in for Arblaster during the summer window, despite their relegation back to the Championship.

Aston Villa currently sit fourth in the Premier League, while they have also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

West Ham meanwhile are eighth in the table and still in the hunt for a Europa League spot, having been knocked out of that competition at the quarter-final stages this season by German champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Oliver Arblaster could be worth targeting for Premier League clubs

It does feel as though Arblaster may be a sensible option for the likes of Villa and West Ham to look to in the summer transfer window.

The midfielder has fared reasonably well during his first taste of Premier League football, and has done so in a side that have struggled badly throughout the course of the campaign.

That does seem to indicate that he has the ability to do a job at that level in the years to come, especially when considering he is still at the very early stages of his career, and has plenty of time to improve as he gains more experience.

Should that be the case, Arblaster does have a chance to develop into something of an asset for one of these teams.

Indeed, Aston Villa and West Ham do have form for plucking gems from the Championship in recent years.

As a result, it would be no surprise if Sheffield United do find themselves facing something of a battle to retain the services of Arblaster during the summer transfer window.
