Beerschot suffered their seventh defeat of the season at the weekend. The 3-0 loss to Sint Truiden means the side remain winless, having picked up just one point from their eight games this season. Many expected that Dirk Kuyt would face the sack after the defeat. However, Het Nieuwsblad have revealed that Kuyt’s sacking is highly unlikely.

The paper has revealed that a clause in the former Liverpool mans contract means that if Beerschot sacked him he would be entitled to full pay for the rest of the contract. Given that Kuyt signed a deal that increased his salary three fold until 2026, that would cost the side a large amount of money. Beerschot are owned by Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad, the same owner of Sheffield United. The Prince convinced Kuyt to sign the deal in the summer after he had helped them to promotion last season.

Kuyt is certainly not the only one to blame for the poor start to the season. Remarkably, two of their summer signings are still awaiting work permits. The rest of their business took place late, meaning they have been playing catch up with everyone else.

Fans showed their frustration last weekend following the match. They are likely concerned ahead of the derby with Antwerp coming up this weekend.
