Amidst all of the terrible injuries, it’s easy to forget that once upon a time Sheffield United striker Rhian Brewster was one of the best wonderkids in English football at Liverpool.

German manager Jurgen Klopp, who will leave his helm at Anfield in the summer, was the one who first identified Brewster, who was in the Chelsea academy at the time. In fact, Brewster was one of the very first talents Klopp had spotted during the early stages of his Liverpool tenure.

Klopp gave the all clear for Liverpool to sign Brewster from Chelsea for £250,000 back in 2015.

As reported by The Athletic, Brewster featured for 50 minutes with Liverpool’s under-16s team before making a substitute appearance for the under-18s. During a dynamic 10-minute stint against Stoke City, he caught Klopp’s attention.

The youngster would later be sent on loan to Swansea City in the 2019/20 where Brewster would amass 11 goals in 22 games for the Jacks. That form enticed Sheffield United to sign the forward in the summer of 2020.

Will Sheffield United ever get to see the best of Rhian Brewster?

United made Brewster their record signing for £18m, rising to £23.5m. Unfortunately, the move has not turned out well. Four seasons into his Blades tenure and the now 23-year-old has scored just five goals for the club.

Soft tissue injuries have plagued Rhian Brewster’s Sheffield United career, and as a result have significantly hampered his progression. According to Transfermarkt, the forward missed 75 games for United across the 21/22 and 22/23 season. And sadly there has been even more injury troubles since then.
