Sheffield United goalkeeper Robin Olsen is said to have made it clear to Paul Heckingbottom that he wishes to leave the club in order to join Aston Villa, as per a recent report by The Star.

The Sweden international is currently on loan with the Blades from Italian Serie A side Roma and is said to be closing in on a move to Villa Park in order to join Steven Gerrard’s men in the Premier League.

Olsen arrived at Bramall Lane in the summer under Slavisa Jokanovic but has since lost his place in the team under Heckingbottom, thus growing more frustrated as a result.

Now the Sheffield United boss has admitted that the shot stopper has outlined his desire to make the move happen:

“Yes, there’s a desire from them to see it happen.

“We respect that and we also respect that he is their player, and what they want to do.

“But at the same time, he is our player at the moment because we have that loan contract. And we will only allow anything to happen if we can do what’s right for us.”

The Blades are said to have already lined up a replacement for the Swede, with Stoke City goalkeeper Frank Fielding said to be in line to come in at the Steel City club.

He would then provide competition and cover to Wes Foderingham.

The Verdict

For one reason or another things just haven’t worked out for Olsen in the Sky Bet Championship with Sheffield United and he is now set to make a return to the Premier League with Villa.

His performances were unconvincing when he was given a chance to impress and as a result the Blades will be pleased that they have kept faith in Foderingham.

There is no need to keep a player about the place who doesn’t want to be there, so there is no doubt that the club will be pleased when he moves on today.

With Fielding seemingly waiting in the wings to join, they should be well covered in the goalkeeping department.
