Sheffield United learn price-tag of attacker while Owls to sign injury prone Blades player | OneFootball

There wasn’t many signings last season that actually paid off for Sheffield United. Ben Brereton-Diaz and Gustavo Hamer are probably the two signings that the majority of fans would all agree were the most successful having contributed to 17 Premier League goals between them.

In the final months of the season supporters were once again reminded of that saying “never fall in love with a loan player”, as fans enjoyed that dynamism and pace that the Chilean international gave the Blades. But, fans knew they’d have to enjoy it while it lasted as the Villarreal loanee impressed in the Premier League’s worst side last campaign.

The 25-year-old returns to Spain this summer with hopes of finding his way into Villarreal’s starting eleven after they picked him up on a free transfer last summer, following the expiration of his Blackburn Rovers contract.

According to El Periodico Mediterraneo, a local newspaper in Spain, they’re claiming Villarreal are happy to sell the lifelong Nottingham Forest supporter this summer. It is quoted that the Yellow Submarine will listen to offers in the region of seven million euros to ten million euros (around £5.9m-£8.5m).

For the performances Brereton-Diaz has just shown in the Premier League it appears that someone will get an impact player for a bargain price.

Sheffield Wednesday in advanced talks to sign recently released Sheffield United player Max Lowe

It is being reported by The Star that 27-year-old Max Lowe is in advanced negotiations to join Sheffield Wednesday after being released by the Blades this month. A medical is expected to take place at the end of the week.

The former Derby County man had a lot of promise in his early years which led Sheffield United to make a double swoop for him and his teammate at the Rams Jayden Bogle. The pair would sign in the summer window of the 2020/21 season for a package deal worth as much as £15 million, per Sky Sports, while the right-back was reportedly the more expensive of the two.

Unfortunately for Lowe he has never really managed to maintain his position in the matchday squad due to countless injury issues over the years. Having made just 11 appearances for United in his debut campaign, he was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest the following season where he made 20 Championship appearances, scoring a goal and providing four assists before sustaining a groin injury. Lowe would miss a total of 23 league games for the Reds due to the injury, per Transfermarkt.

Following a successful yet injury riddled spell at Forest, the Blades decided to keep him in the squad for the 2022/23 campaign and he did play a part in getting Sheffield United promoted, but once again it was another season that was hindered by injuries. The former Derby man provided five assists and a goal in 26 Championship appearances under Paul Heckingbottom.

The Blades were left short of left-wingback options through the early months of the just-finished Premier League campaign after Lowe injured his ankle on a sprinkler head a couple of weeks into the season. After missing 25 top-flight matches last term it came as no surprise to see United refuse to give him a new contract.
