Sheffield United could have new owners in charge before they kick off their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on August 12.

According to the Daily Star, club owner Prince Abdullah bin Musaid Al Saud is in talks with a Saudi Arabian consortium over a potential takeover worth around £140 million.

The Blades have returned to the English top flight following a two-year absence after finishing as runners-up in the Championship last season, ten points behind champions Burnley.

However, despite their ascension, Prince Abdullah is still keen on cashing in on the club after claiming he has no more funds to keep bankrolling the Blades.

Nigerian billionaire Dozy Mmobuosi had been linked with buying Sheffield after infusing a reported £9m to help the club meet their financial targets.

He had agreed to buy Sheffield for £115m. However, the relationship between both parties reportedly broke down, which also affected negotiations with Prince Abdullah keen to listen to other offers for the club.

Premier League promotion has helped the club rise in valuation, and a deal is set to cost a whopping £140m. But the Saudis could face competition from two United States consortiums, who are also keen on buying the club.

Meanwhile, Prince Abdullah has informed manager Paul Heckingbottom that he will have just £20m to spend in the summer transfer market despite securing the club a massive £170m windfall following promotion.

United must sell to raise funds for a summer spending spree, and several players are already attracting interest from clubs at home and abroad.

Iliman Ndiaye has been a revelation for the Blades this season, spurring them to promotion with 14 goals and 11 assists while leading his teammates in both categories.

The Senegalese forward has drawn interest from Everton, Newcastle United, West Ham United and AC Milan.

Sander Berge could also exit Bramall Lane this summer after his impressive performances last season.
