A number of teams from across Europe like the look of the Dutchman.
A move for Sheffield United star Gus Hamer is being worked on by PSV Eindhoven.
On top of the pain of not getting back to the Premier League, Tommy Watson's late goal for Sunderland at Wembley in the play-off final also brought with it the worrying sense that many of the Blades' top stars may leave this summer.
Vinicius Souza has already departed from Bramall Lane to join Wolfsburg. That deal has reportedly netted United just under £13 million, and the threat of further exits remains.
Hamer, who set up Tyrese Campbell's goal in the final with some lovely work, has been linked with a number of clubs since the Blades' relegation to the Championship. Leeds United have been long-time admirers of the Dutchman. Now the Yorkshire red and whites face further pressure from one of the biggest teams in the nation which Hamer represents.
PSV are now looking to put together a package for the 28-year-old, according to Football Insider. Their interest in the Blades' attacking midfielder was also reported in the Netherlands by SoccerNews. However, they also stated that Hamer would prefer to stay in England and head back to the Premier League rather than moving abroad.
United boss Ruben Selles has been pretty clear in his stance on the situation: he does not want the Championship's Player of the Season to leave Bramall Lane this summer.
"He’s a Sheffield United player, and I think I want him to be a Sheffield United player when the market closes," the Spaniard told Sky Sports.
"So, obviously I cannot control what happens in the future, because the market is so fluid and dynamic sometimes. I just want to keep him as one of my players because he has been working really hard for us and for the team. And if we can keep him that will mean we will be in a really powerful place to achieve our targets."
Hamer, who was bought by the Blades upon their return to the Premier League for £15 million from Coventry City, has another two years left on his current deal, which will give Selles a bit of protection against PSV and any other clubs looking to poach him away from Bramall Lane.
The trouble they will have is with Hamer's ambition. His desire to play at the highest level will make it incredibly tough for United to retain his services beyond this summer.
