Sheffield United are keen on James McAtee’s older brother, John McAtee, who is currently on loan at Barnsley from Luton Town.

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, the Blades are interested in a loan deal for the 24-year-old striker who has had a promising season in League One. McAtee has scored 12 goals and provided four assists in the league in 30 appearances, for promotion chasing Barnsley.

As well as playing as a striker the Englishman can play as an attacking midfielder, so his versatility in attack would be a big benefit for the Blades.

Sheffield United are set to have huge voids up the top of the pitch in the summer as Ben Brereton-Diaz’s loan spell will expire, and Aston Villa’s buy-back of Cameron Archer is set to be exercised. It is still not known yet if Oli McBurnie will don the red and white shirt next season either.

Given he is contracted to Luton, it’s not known if the Hatters would strike up a loan deal with the Blades as they could be direct rivals in the Championship next term. But if Rob Edwards’ men were able to beat the drop and remain in the Premier League, then a loan move for John McAtee would certainly make a lot more sense.
