Sheffield United are hoping to welcome Sander Berge back from injury in the near future.

The World Cup break has come at a good time for Berge and his comeback trail, meaning the Norway international won’t be missing as many fixtures as he would have in a normal season.

A month without a fixture has allowed Berge the chance to really focus on his rehab and getting himself back as soon as possible.

The club shared a couple of updates on their Twitter account last night, showing the 24-year-old working hard in the gym ahead of a potential return.

Speaking to Sheffield United’s programme heading into the World Cup break, Berge offered an update: “I’m getting better and better now thankfully, and my sole focus is on returning to action as soon as possible. It is always a blow and there is never a good time to be out injured, but I’m getting stronger now and in some ways the World Cup break that is coming up is at an ideal time for me because it means I’m not missing so many games and I’m hoping to be back to help the lads as soon as possible.

It was frustrating and disappointing to have picked up the injury, but I always try and remain positive about the situation and come into work everyday with the goal of returning to help the team. I can focus only on United with Norway not in the World Cup, so that has helped in a sense.”

Prior to his injury, Berge had scored three goals and registered three assists in 12 Championship appearances.

Despite losing Berge to injury, Sheffield United have maintained some strong form in the Championship and sit second in the table, three points adrift of Burnley at the top.

The Blades take on Huddersfield Town on December 10th as the Championship resumes.

The Verdict

It’s great to see Berge firmly on the comeback trail now.

Sheffield United have missed the 24-year-old over the course of the last nine games, which was to be expected given his undoubted quality.

Quite when Berge will be able to return remains a mystery, but judging by these photo hints and Berge’s comments before the World Cup break, it won’t be miles away.
