Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion shared the spoils in a fiercely contested Championship clash on Sunday afternoon, with the game ending 1-1 at Bramall Lane. A first-half goal from Andre Brooks for the Blades was cancelled out by Karlan Grant’s equaliser for the Baggies just before halftime.
Andre Brooks opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a composed finish, latching onto a deft flick from Callum O’Hare before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. It was a moment to savour for Brooks, as the goal marked his first competitive goal for his boyhood club. His energetic and creative performance was one of the standout aspects of the game for Sheffield United.
West Brom, however, had opportunities to level the score. Fellows missed a golden chance when he fired over the bar from close range after a rebound. Moments later, Fellows redeemed himself by setting up Karlan Grant on the edge of the box. Grant’s low drive into the bottom left corner in first-half stoppage time ensured parity going into the break.
The second half saw few clear-cut chances, but the best opportunity fell to substitute Rhian Brewster in the 85th minute. Following an impressive piece of skill and determination by Brooks to retain possession, the ball was delivered to Brewster at the back post. Unfortunately for the Blades, Brewster’s shot sailed over the bar, leaving the game deadlocked.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder was full of praise for his team after the match, speaking to SUTV he highlighted their resilience despite being stretched thin due to injuries and illness.
“I am super proud of my team. We are so stretched it’s unbelievable,” Wilder said. “I thought we were light at the start of the season with bodies and we had to keep everybody healthy and when we suffer more than a couple injuries we’re getting stretched.”
Wilder also acknowledged the difficulties his team faced, including illness affecting key players like Sydie Peck, Jack Robinson, Rhys Norrington-Davies, and Rhian Brewster. “They left everything out there for the supporters and the team,” he added.
Wilder reserved special praise for Andre Brooks, who delivered a standout performance and capped it with his first league goal for his boyhood club. “Delighted for Brooksy, he started off the season very well and then Jes [Rak-Sakyi] has come in so he’s had to fight. We needed something more, we’ve had chats about it, he needs to do more in training, more on the Monday-Friday, but he’s getting there now,” he said.
“It was an opportunity for him and I thought he was outstanding today. He’s not played a lot of football, he’s cramping up towards the end, but he was willing to get off the canvas and go again and recover to help Alfie [Gilchrist] and then get to the top of the pitch.”
Wilder also addressed the loss of Harry Souttar, whose loan spell at United has come to an end after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury. “He’s been amazing. His partnership with Anel [Ahmedhodzic] and Jack [Robinson] has been outstanding. Devastated to lose him; he loved it here and he is gutted to leave,” Wilder said.
