Sheffield United have made Brazilian midfielder Vinícius Souza their fifth signing of the summer.
The 24-year-old joins the Premier League newcomers from Belgian second tier side Lommel in a reported €12m deal.
Souza, who spent last season on loan with Espanyol, was previously linked with a move to Wolves but has signed a four-year contract with the Blades.
“Vini is athletic, enjoys the defensive side of the game and likes to compete,” said United manager Paul Heckingbottom.
“We know we are getting a good player and he knows what role we want him to perform for us.
“He is someone we have known for a long time, we became aware of him the Christmas before last when I first saw him and we started discussing him.
I’m delighted we’ve been able to get him on a permanent deal, we thought it would only be a loan, but we think he is going to be really important for us this season – and going forward.”
Heckingbottom’s side entertain Crystal Palace at Brammall Lane in their opening Premier League encounter on Saturday.
