The defender joined Albion on a two-year deal back in September when Steve Bruce was in charge, however he has fallen down the pecking order since Carlos Corberan was appointed and often fails to make the matchday squad for the league games.
Therefore, a move could appeal for the 32-year-old and reporter Alan Nixon has revealed that new Latics boss Shaun Maloney wants to bring the defender in.
The update claims that Kelly’s versatility, with the former Liverpool man capable of playing across the back line, is something that appeals as Maloney looks to bolster his squad in the coming days before the deadline.
A loan move has been suggested, which the Baggies are unlikely to object too as they are well-stocked for options in defence and Kelly clearly isn’t in the plans of Corberan.
Kelly was not involved as West Brom were knocked out of the FA Cup at the fourth round stage following defeat to Bristol City at Ashton Gate this afternoon.

The verdict
This would appear to be a move that suits all parties and it’s one that should get done before the deadline.
Firstly, Kelly is out of the picture at West Brom, so they would surely welcome the chance to get his wages off the books, whilst the player joins a club where he will get more game time.
For Wigan and Maloney, they are getting an experienced, versatile defender that can add quality and leadership to help them in their bid to survive this season.
