Lazio defender Samuel Gigot has reportedly earned himself a new suitor in the shape of Sevilla who are desperate to bolster the backline before the transfer window shuts down.

Samuel Gigot Considered Surplus to Requirements at Lazio

The 31-year-old only joined the club a year ago, but his time in the Italian capital looks all but over. Although he wasn’t a regular starter last season, the Frenchman was part of Marco Baroni’s rotation, and often played in the Europa League. However, he now finds himself fifth in Maurizio Sarri’s centre-back pecking order, and thus risks being omitted from the Serie A squad.

Gigot’s List of Suitors

Luckily for Gigot, he found himself a host of suitors in Europe and beyond. He has been linked with clubs in Turkiye, Greece (particularly PAOK), the UAE and Qatar. Moreover, he reportedly turned down proposals form Cremonese and Cagliari, who offered him the chance to extend his stay in Serie A.

Why Sevilla Resorted to Gigot

According to Elcorreoweb, Sevilla have now turned to the former Olympique Marseille star after missing out on Diego Carlos. The Andalusians were hoping to bring back the Brazilian defender who donned their colors between 2019 and 2022 before joining Aston Villa. The 32-year-old currently plays for Fenerbahce, who have agreed to sell him to Como.

Sevilla Would Give Lazio an Important ‘Assist’

Therefore, with Carlos on the cusp of joining Cesc Fabregas’ ranks, Sevilla are plotting a late-summer onslaught for Gigot. This would be music to the ears of Lazio, who are keen to offload the redundant defender. This sale might help the Aquile in their task to settle their accounts and subsequently lift the transfer ban in the coming weeks or months.
