It’s been a busy summer for Sevilla, with Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta’s squad having been overhauled in recent weeks. One of the key areas that was addressed was in midfield, where there has already been the signings of Albert Sambi-Lokonga, from Arsenal, and Saul Niguez, from Atletico Madrid.
Sambi-Lokonga is an exciting addition, as he is off the back of an impressive season on loan at Luton Town. The Arsenal loanee is expected to act as the deepest midfielder in Garcia Pimienta’s system, although he won’t operate in that role against Las Palmas in Sevilla’s La Liga opener.
That’s because Sambi-Lokonga, fresh after recovering from a neck problem, has now injured his hamstring. ED say that it is serious enough to rule him out for the next few weeks at least, meaning that he will play no part in Gran Canaria.
Sambi-Lokonga’s injury is a blow for Sevilla, although it will be somewhat mitigated by Lucien Agoume’s impending return to the club – the young midfielder is set to re-sign permanently from Inter Milan.
