Sevilla have reportedly moved ahead of AS Roma in the pursuit of Manchester United defender Eric Bailly, reports The Sun.

The Italian giants have been heavily linked with the Ivory Coast defender, who looks to have no future at Old Trafford.

However, Bailly is said to have turned down the opportunity to reunite with Jose Mourinho as he prefers a move to Sevilla.

Bailly’s future has been questioned following the recent acquisition of Lisandro Martinez, whom Erik ten Hag fought tooth and nail for in the summer transfer window.

With his contract expiring in 2023, United are willing to sell Bailly for a considerable fee this summer rather than a free transfer at the end of next season.

The La Liga giants are in dire need of defensive reinforcements after losing their two pillars, Diego Carlos and Jules Kounde, to Aston Villa and Barcelona respectively.

Having already signed Marcao from Galatasaray, Julen Lopetegui wants to add another top-quality centre-back to the ranks.

Bailly is one of the several names considered by the Andalusian outfit. Although he wouldn’t be an out-and-out replacement for Kounde or Carlos, his experience in the Premier League would be an advantage for Sevilla.

The 28-year-old will be looking to revive his career after an underwhelming spell at Old Trafford, and a move to Sevilla could be helpful.

The Spanish giants have also added Paris Saint-Germain’s Thilo Kehrer and Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso to their wishlist.
