Sevilla director Monchi turned down the chance to sign in-demand Napoli forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for just €6 million.

The player’s agent, Pablo Ceijas, recounted how his client Kvaratskhelia was offered to several La Liga clubs, including Valencia, Levante and Sevilla, with a relatively low asking price.

Los Nervionenses were reportedly the most interested side among the others, and a deal was close to being completed before sporting director Monchi pulled the plug.

“There was talk of Valencia, Levante, and Sevilla – about €6 million,” Ceijas said in an interview (via Mundo Deportivo).

“Sevilla was the club he was closest to, and Monchi rejected it. It was a position where they were covered and didn’t see what the player could unleash.”

Sevilla’s missed opportunity turned out to be Napoli’s gold mine as the player then joined the Gli Azzurri in an €11m deal from Georgian side Dinamo Batumi.

Kvaratskhelia has since become one of the most sought-after forwards after an outstanding breakout campaign at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

The 22-year-old is one of the leading figures in Luciano Spalletti’s Scudetto chasing Napoli side, who are 19 points ahead of the chasing pack.

Kvaratskhelia is now worth over ten times his initial value and is not short on interested suitors, with the Premier League heavyweights eyeing a summer move.

Napoli are keen to renew the player’s contract to ward off interest, but his agent, who had previously revealed that his client loves Spanish giants Real Madrid, has left the door open for a summer move.

“The player is now worth €100m,” Ceijas added. “He could perfectly play for Real Madrid or Barcelona, but I think he will end up playing in the Premier League, which is the one that can pay those amounts of money.”

Kvaratskhelia has scored and assisted 12 goals each in 23 Serie A games this season.

He has also been instrumental in Napoli’s Champions League run to the quarter-finals, with two goals and four assists in seven games.
