Sevilla sporting director Monchi says Sergio Ramos has returned to negotiations with Real Madrid about a new contract.

With his deal to expire at the end of this month and negotiations stalling with Real, it emerged Sevilla had made a move to bring the 35 year-old defender back to his old club.

Asked about the prospect, however, Monchi revealed to Sky Sports via Mundo Deportivo: "He is a Real Madrid player and I think he is in conversation to continue there.

"That's what I can say about this."

Ramos left Sevilla in 2005 for Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, El Confidencial via Le 10 Sport says Ramos and Real Madrid are now closer to reaching an agreement for the captain to continue next season.

Ramos has climbed down from his original demands of a two-year deal at his current €12m salary. Instead, Ramos is expected to pen a rolling 12 month deal on reduced terms.

Ramos met with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez on Friday face-to-face which has since seen talks resume over the veteran's contract situation.
