For Toronto FC, several players stood out throughout the 2024 season. Federico Bernardeschi was clearly the standout player, delivering impressive performances and playing a attacker role in the team's offensive play.
However, there were also players whose performances fell short, despite having key moments for the team. One of these players was Kobe Franklin, who, despite his promising future, had a difficult season.
At just 21 years old, Franklin entered the season as a highly anticipated young talent. As an attacking midfielder, he was expected to make an impact. John Herdman used him in several matches, and he even started a few, playing an important role on the left flank. However, Franklin's performance did not meet expectations.
Throughout the season, Franklin played 21 matches for Toronto FC, starting in 5 of them. His average playing time was only 33 minutes per match, totaling 701 minutes in the MLS. This low playing time and limited impact led to low expectations for the young player. His SofaScore rating for the season was just 6.55, a reflection of his struggles on the field.
Despite these statistics, there are factors that aren’t captured in the numbers. At only 21, Franklin still has a lot of potential, and there is hope that the 2025 season will be a breakout year for him. It will be essential to see how he continues to work on his development and whether John Herman continues to trust him for the upcoming challenges.
The 2025 season will be critical not only for Franklin but for Toronto FC as a whole. After the club works on potential signings and departures, it will be important to assess whether the team can meet expectations or if they will face another disappointing season. Franklin’s growth will play a significant role in Toronto FC’s ability to succeed in the coming year.
