Thumping statement win

While doubters were questioning our attacking prowess after two consecutive 1-1 draws, there was an emphatic response today. On the 20th Matchday of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, close to 9,000 fans at the Red Bull Arena saw a seven-goal spectacular from Struber's stars, as we put out a real statement of intent against Austria Lustenau.

Match summary

Just like last week, we took a very early lead. Luka Sucic set up the opening goal, dribbling around an opponent and sending in a delightful cross that Fernarndo gobbled up to give us the lead (5').

We kept the tempo high – way too high for the visitors, as it turned out. A Ratkov header rattled the woodwork in the 10th minute, before we pounced again. Some more super supply work from Aleksa Terzic led to Lustenau's Matheus Lins turning the ball into his own net (13').

The side coached by Andreas Heraf were clearly overwhelmed by our Red Bulls' attacking machine, as we continued to weave our way through their defence - mostly on the left side.

Our third goal came via a superb one-two between Kjaergaard and Gloukh, with the former finishing neatly for 3-0 (18'). In the 32nd minute, Fernando pounced for his brace after being teed up by Ratkov. Our dominance was total in the opening 45!

The attacking spectacle continued in the second period. Fernando from distance (46') and Terzic (48') from a tight angle both had chances to make it 5-0 before Gloukh got a well-deserved goal after Sucic had headed the ball across (54').

The visitors then had their one real chance as Leo Mikic (55') broke free of our defence and sent the ball just wide of Alex Schlager's target - which was barely bothered the entire afternoon. With a little less than half an hour still on the clock, our pack was shuffled. Roko Simic, Mads Bidstrup and Sekou Koita came on - along with freshly crowned AFCON winner Karim Konate, who made his first appearance of 2024 for our Red Bulls. It wouldn't take long until the 19-year-old Ivorian did just what he does best - scoring goals! Koita teed him up and he slotted past Schierl to bring up our half dozen (72'). The game quietened down at the end as our boys took the sting out of the game with the points long since secured. We still had a goal up our sleeves, however! A corner ended up falling out to Koita, who volleyed on target from outside the box - and the ball took a big deflection from a defender into the net to make it 7-0 and complete the statement win!

We served up exactly what we wanted on the pitch. We had the purpose we needed going forward, we set the tone and along with getting all the overlaps, we found the right moments to step up the tempo. The boys proved they can score - the seven goals are balsam for the boys and good for the soul.

Gerhard Struber

It's so much fun winning 7-0, of course. We did very well today, played very quickly with one and two touches and kept on running for one another, just having fun with our football. We are pleased about the win and are looking forward to the next match!

Maurits Kjaergaard

That was superb today! The seven goals did not come out of nowhere, we worked hard for them. We have such strong attackers. To see the confidence they have is hugely important for us.
