FC Barcelona and the Spanish National team have a rather special connection. Often times, the strength of one seems to be connected to the strength of the other. Even today, many Barça players remain key components of the Spanish team.

That is why, ahead of the upcoming international break, there was an expectation that Luis de la Fuente would call up several players from the Catalan club. With the list now revealed, there are definitely a good number of Hansi Flick’s players that have been called up.

Luis de la Fuente calls up seven Barcelona players

As highlighted by SPORT, seven Barça players have been called up for the upcoming international games for Spain. The list includes Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, Pedri, Gavi, Pau Cubarsi, and Ferran Torres.

Most of these names were expected to be called up, and Torres now returns to the international call up as well after having missed the previous break due to appendicitis. Moreover, considering his impressive start to the season, leaving him out would not have made a lot of sense.

Two notable absentees to consider

However, as is common with such international breaks, there is a level of controversy as well. Two major absentees who should be in the squad given their performances recently and over the course of last season are Eric Garcia and Joan Garcia.

The latter, who almost certainly ended the previous campaign as La Liga’s most outstanding goalkeeper, was not chosen by Luis de la Fuente. Instead, his trusted regulars Unai Simon and David Raya have been called up alongside Alex Remiro.

As for Eric Garcia, it seems that the Spaniard’s solid start to the season and end to the last campaign have not been rewarded. Instead, the Spanish National team coach has decided to trust Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal, despite the fact that he recently returned from a long-term injury.

Either way, compared to various other teams, Barça’s representation is still quite strong. While it remains to be seen what happens with Lopez in the final days of the transfer window in terms of which club he represents next season, there are currently still seven great Barça players in the Spain squad for the upcoming international break.
