The Swiss striker has been making a mini renaissance since his return to action in Ligue 1 Uber Eats. Breel Embolo has been away for several months, but has proved himself once more in Adi Hütter Monégasque side in the four games since returning to the team. His goal against Clermont last weekend was vital in Monaco's dominant win over Ligue 1's last-placed side, which sealed Champions League football for the side from the principality.
His gradual return was marked by collective training sessions starting March 5th, followed by his call-up for the match against Metz, where he finally returned to the pitch in the 5-2 victory.
But that was just the beginning of his comeback. Gradually, Embolo regained his rhythm and confidence, earning playing time at Lille and Lyon. Then came the long-awaited moment: his return as a starter alongside his captain, Wissam Ben Yedder, against Clermont. His last goal in Ligue 1 dated back to February 5, 2023, also against Clermont.
"It's in these kinds of moments that we evolve as a football player"
"Breel brings us an additional option in this squad, in addition to bringing his energy," said manager Adi Hütter following the game. "He gives a lot on the pitch, and he showed it against Lille and Lyon in particular. (...) I was happy with his return, and I repeat, he gives me more possibilities for this end of the season."
"It was a long absence, and difficult especially mentally," said the Switzerland international, adding "even if I was very well supported by the Club and outside it. It's in these kinds of moments that we evolve as a football player, but also as a man."
