Benjamin Sesko is edging closer to a Premier League transfer and could become RB Leipzig’s biggest ever export.
Manchester United are working on a deal to sign Sesko worth upwards of €80m, with the Red Devils set to beat Newcastle to the striker’s signature.
Leipzig have been no stranger to exports to England in recent years, and we’ve ranked the German side’s biggest ever Premier League sales.
“Turbo Timo” departed RB Leipzig as the club’s record scorer after netting 95 goals in 159 games for the German outfit. Werner’s final season saw him smash home 28 goals in the Bundesliga, persuading Chelsea to spend €53m (£47.5m) on his services in 2020.
The forward ended his debut season as a Champions League winner, but failed to hit the heights expected at Stamford Bridge. He netted just 23 goals in 89 games over two seasons before being allowed to return to Leipzig at a discounted £25.3m.
His second spell in Leipzig proved less fruitful, and he is now assessing his options after an underwhelming 18-month loan at Tottenham Hotspur.
Jürgen Klopp was so keen to sign Naby Keita that Liverpool agreed to sign the midfielder a year before his eventual arrival at Anfield. Keita had been a box-to-box force at Leipzig, earning inclusion in the 2016/17 Bundesliga Team of the Season.
His time at Liverpool was punctuated by bright moments and injury issues, which restricted the Guinea international to just 49 league starts in five seasons. Though he won seven trophies with the Reds, his signing failed to live up to expectations.
Continuing a theme of RB Leipzig players disappointing in England is Christopher Nkunku. Across his final two seasons in Germany, Nkunku scored 58 goals and won the Bundesliga Player of the Season and top-scorer awards.
Chelsea paid €60m (£52m) to sign the French forward, but his debut campaign was decimated by injury. He scored 15 goals in 48 appearances in 2024/25, though his minutes were largely restricted to the Europa Conference League. Nkunku is expected to move on this summer.
Jürgen Klopp rebuilt his midfield in the summer of 2023, with four new faces arriving to freshen the engine room. The most expensive was Dominik Szoboszlai, who had shone in Leipzig after following the familiar path to Germany from Red Bull Salzburg.
In the Premier League, Szoboszlai has been a key figure for Liverpool. The Hungarian’s boundless energy was a driving force in Liverpool’s title success last season.
Josko Gvardiol is the most expensive sale in RB Leipzig’s history after joining Manchester City in a €90m deal.
The Croatian has been a big hit at the Etihad, with his combination of bullish strength and progressive football well appreciated. Gvardiol won the Premier League title in his debut season and impressed last term despite a downturn for Pep Guardiola’s side. The defender was named City’s Player of the Year for the 2024/25 season.
