Lassana Traoré signed his first professional contract with Saint-Étienne on June 18, 2025, arriving from Diambars FC. In a recent interview, his Senegal U20 coach, Serigne Saliou Dia, highlighted the young player's athletic and mental qualities.

Lassana Traoré joined AS Saint-Étienne after proving himself at the Diambars academy and successfully completing a trial with Les Verts. Serigne Saliou Dia was full of praise for the 18-year-old midfielder in an interview with Poteaux Carrés.

"Lassana is a player who masters his left flank, he has great quality in his play. He really covers a lot of ground on his side. Lassana has the ability to repeat high-intensity efforts, which is crucial for excelling in the full-back position. Physically, he is very comfortable in this aspect. He's also quite an attacking defender, capable of delivering excellent crosses. He's a tough defender in one-on-one situations—sometimes a bit too aggressive and could learn to control himself more. But that will come with experience. In one-on-one duels, he's hard to beat and can intimidate his opponents because he's a physical beast. When he makes contact, his opponent feels it."

The U20 coach also pointed out areas for improvement. The 2023 U17 AFCON champion still needs to refine the accuracy of his crosses and better control his emotions in challenges. However, the coach noted his progress, especially with his heading and right foot, and trusts the Saint-Étienne academy to further develop him.

"Sometimes his crosses lack precision, that's an area he needs to improve. Lassana is naturally a bit impulsive, he needs to learn to control his enthusiasm and the intensity he brings to his duels. I'm convinced he'll get better in this regard while remaining an impactful player. Lassana is a young player who has just turned 18. He has great potential for development, and I'm convinced that ASSE will help him progress," concluded Serigne Saliou Dia.
