Marko Arnautovic bagged a brace to ensure Inter avoided defeat in the final round of the Scudetto-winning season, but Verona gave as good as they got.

It was a celebratory atmosphere at the Stadio Bentegodi, as Hellas had already secured safety and Inter completed their Scudetto-winning campaign, although it was the first match since Suning lost control of the club to Oaktree. Ondrej Duda and Thomas Henry were suspended, with Lorenzo Montipò, Michael Folorunsho and Karol Swiderski injured.

Marko Arnautovic opened the scoring after 10 minutes when he caught Diego Coppola napping on the edge of the penalty area and robbed him to beat the goalkeeper one-on-one.

However, Hellas equalised on the counter when a smart Tomas Suslov slide-rule pass allowed Tijjani Noslin to spring the offside trap for a delicate finish.

Marcus Thuram’s deflected effort caused problems for the goalkeeper, who made a great save on the Davide Frattesi header.

Verona turned the game around when Nicolò Barella was robbed by Suat Serdar in the final third and Noslin laid it off for Suslov just inside the box.

Inter equalised in first half stoppages, as Barella floated a ball over the top, which Frattesi cushioned down with his chest for Arnautovic to finish off.

Simone Perilli made a sensational double save on first Frattesi and then Alexis Sanchez, as the Tajon Buchanan low cross wreaked havoc.

Perilli also flew to push a Hakan Calhanoglu effort over the bar, while Inter’s third choice goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro had to make a tough reaction save on Serdar at the back post on a corner, then the Elyas Tavsan snapshot.

Frattesi thought he’d won it by lobbing the goalkeeper at the 84th minute, but Ruben Vinagre cleared it off the line, albeit onto the underside of the bar.

Alexis Sanchez scored with a beautiful lob in stoppages, but that was ruled offside.

Arnautovic 10, 45 (I), Noslin 16 (V), Suslov 37 (V)
