Monza finally picked up their first league victory of the season with an impressive 3-0 victory away against Hellas Verona in the final fixture of the eighth round of Serie A fixtures on Monday evening, with Dany Mota providing a brace and Alessandro Bianco the finishing touches.
Monza had been without a win all season in Serie A up to this point and had sat in 19th with four draws and three losses heading into the game. While Verona had also lost three, they managed to pick up three wins from their opening seven matches of the campaign.
It took just nine minutes for the scores to be opened on Monday night. Mota’s splendid volley put the visitors ahead after a bright opening period.
The Portuguese netted his and his team’s second mid-way through the second half. It was route-one all the way on this occasion, as Milan Djuric got his head onto a goal-kick, which sent Mota through one-on-one with Lorenzo Montipò in the Verona net.
Monza had their third with an identical goal just five minutes later. Another Stefano Turati goal kick found the head of Djuric, who this time found Bianco, who’s run and finish was a carbon copy of Mota’s just a few moments earlier.
Monza’s result lifts them out of the relegation zone and into 16th place in the Serie A table with a new tally of seven points for the 2024-25 season so far.
They now sit just two points and three positions below Monday’s opponents, Verona, who stay stuck in 13th place with nine points from eight.
