Saturday’s results have shaken up the battle to avoid relegation from Serie A, while Lazio put themselves back in the race for European places.

Week 29 had four fixtures today and so far we haven’t had a single stalemate in this round.

There were four away victories including Bologna at Empoli on Friday, as Torino emerged 2-0 winners against Udinese, Lecce took the 1-0 result in Salerno under new coach Luca Gotti, while Lazio conquered Frosinone 3-2.

The only home win was Monza against Cagliari, secured by a wonderful Daniel Maldini free kick.

Lazio will be taken over by Igor Tudor next week, but Maurizio Sarri’s former assistant manager Giovanni Martusciello oversaw the much-needed success in Frosinone to have them on 43 points, so still ahead of Monza and Torino.

Lecce took a leap up the standings to 13th place with their win at doomed Salernitana, but Udinese, Cagliari, Empoli and Frosinone are all left empty-handed.

It is a big opportunity for Sassuolo to break out of the bottom three when they visit Roma on Sunday, while Verona can get clear if they pick up a result at home to Milan.
