Sofyan Amrabat lines up ahead of the Coppa Italia final.
Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has snubbed interest from Liverpool with a move to Man Utd edging closer, according to reports.
The Red Devils have already added Mason Mount and Andre Onana to their ranks this summer as Erik ten Hag looks to build on the relative success of his first season in charge.
It is well known now that Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund is the next name on their shopping list with deals for a midfielder and a centre-back likely to be done after Man Utd have sealed a striker signing.
But that doesn’t mean they aren’t exploring deals now with Fiorentina’s Amrabat appearing as one of their top targets after months of speculation.
A report yesterday in La Nazione insisted that Man Utd and Fiorentina are now €3-5m apart in terms of valuations with the Red Devils edging closer to a deal.
And today Italian journalist Nico Schira said that Man Utd and Amrabat had an ‘agreement in principle’ for ‘a contract until 2028 with a salary of €4M/year’.
That comes after Fiorentina general manager Joe Barone said last week that they were yet to receive any “official” offers for the Morocco international.
“He [Amrabat] is also very attached to the team and to me too, we speak in English and we talk almost every day,” Barone told Sky Sport Italy. “At the moment nothing official has arrived, I told him to come here concentrated because he is a Fiorentina player.
“He must have his head here and be ready for the start of the league, then if something comes we’ll evaluate it. We have an already very strong midfield department.”
And now Italian journalist Enzo Bucchioni has a fresh update claiming that Man Utd are ‘in pole position’ for Amrabat with Fiorentina requesting €30m-€35m to complete a deal.
The Red Devils want to pay less and Bucchioni insists there is a possibility of a deal being struck for €27m and is sure a ‘solution will be found’.
And now there is ‘absolute certainty’ that Man Utd will close the signing of Amrabat ‘in the next few days’ with ‘important steps’ being taken.
Italian publication Corriere della Sera (via the Daily Mirror) insist that the Fiorentina midfielder ‘has made it clear that he has no desire to join Liverpool this summer’ amid interest from Man Utd.
Apparently Liverpool wanted to sign him in ‘recent days’ but he has told the Reds that he prefers a transfer to their arch-rivals Man Utd.
