Nicolo Zaniolo rejects West Ham United move to force Tottenham Hotspur transfer

It seems that Nicolo Zaniolo has his heart set on a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, as the playmaker has apparently rejected a move to West Ham United.

This is according to Get Italian Football News (h/t Evening Standard), which claim that he 23-year-old wants to move to Spurs instead. West Ham are currently struggling to stay in the league.

Given the Italy international’s quality, there is no doubt that he will have a better chance to play regularly with the Hammers. Moreover, Spurs aren’t short of first-team superstars.

Son Heung-min, Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison will all be Zaniolo’s competition for a place in the frontline. However, a move to Spurs a better chance at qualifying for European football – at least right now.

Spurs must hurry

West Ham are reeling in 16th with 18 points from 20 Premier League games this season. As for Spurs, we are three points away from fourth-placed Manchester United – although they have a game in hand.

Roma apparently value Zaniolo at around 35million Pounds and Tottenham’s interest in the player is significant. He has one-and-a-half-year left on his current contract at Stadio Olimpico.

It’s not a very high valuation and perhaps we would be wise to meet it before the 31 January transfer window deadline. We need additions up front if we are to properly give ourselves a fighting chance to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

Zaniolo is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, which is a position we have no depth in. At 23, he is also billed as future superstar and can reach his potential under the guidance of manager Antonio Conte.
