According to Ignazio Genuardi, recently promoted Serie A side are pushing to sign former PSG striker Edinson Cavani (35), whose contract with Manchester United is set to expire at the end of the month.

Despite leaving for Manchester two years ago, the veteran remains Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time top goalscorer, with 200 goals in his 301 games for the club and Kylian Mbappé now just 30 goals behind him.

In their attempts to draw the 35-year-old in, Salernitana have offered a 3-year contract, an annual salary of €1.5m to €2m and a number of bonuses, including €200,000 per goal scored and the captain’s armband. Genuardi also reports that the Uruguayan could be offered the possibility of cancelling the contract he signs at any point, giving him complete control over his commitment to the club.

During Cavani’s time in Italy, playing for both Palermo and Napoli between 2007 and 2013, Salernitana were playing in the country’s third tier of football, but finished 17th in the top flight last season. Uruguay’s second top all-time goalscorer could be set to return to Italy for the final years of his career.
