Serie A side Bologna are eyeing a move for Watford defender William Troost-Ekong before the transfer window shuts.

That is according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports that the Italian side are looking to reinforce their defence, seeing Troost-Ekong as somebody who could come in and do just that.

Di Marzio states that we will see in the final few days of the transfer market whether or not Bologna’s interest becomes ‘concrete’, with a loan move a possibility.

This update comes after the Nigerian international was linked with a separate move away from the club in recent weeks.

As per journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, Turkish side Trabzonspor are also keen on bringing the 28-year-old to their club this summer.

Okeleji reported recently that the Hornets rejected an initial offer from the Turkish side.

Trabzonspor were said to be pursuing a season-long loan deal that included an option to buy as part of the agreement.

It is unclear at this stage whether Bologna would seek an option to buy as part of any potential loan agreement.

Troost-Ekong has made just one league appearance for Watford so far this campaign and appears to be well down the pecking order at Vicarage Road.

The Nigerian international has played in both Italy and Turkey previously.

The Verdict

This is certainly an interesting one and surely one that William Troost-Ekong would seriously consider if the possibility arose.

A move to Bologna would see him return to top-flight football in one of the best leagues in the world.

That is surely an attractive proposition when you consider that, at present, he is out of favour at a side in the Championship.

At 28-years-old, the central defender will not want to spend the season sitting on the sidelines and as such, it would not be a great surprise to see him depart Vicarage Road before the transfer deadline later this week.
