Serie A was the second-highest spending league in Europe on transfer fees during the summer window, recent studies have confirmed.

How much did Serie A clubs spend this summer?

Collectively, clubs in Italy’s top flight spent around €747m  on transfer fees this summer, which is almost twice as much as they received from outgoing players: €384m.

Those figures are still dwarfed in comparison to the amount spent by Premier League clubs this summer, who forked out over €2 billion (£1.75 billion) on transfer fees according to The Athletic.

In fact, the Premier League’s spending accounts for over one third of all transfer fees spent over the course of the summer transfer window, which collectively was around €5.8 billion.

Juventus were the highest spenders in Serie A this summer, dishing out around €160m in transfer fees. It came to a total net spend of just over €100m, having also raised around €60m in player sales.

The Bianconeri also made the two most expensive signings of the Serie A window with their acquisitions of Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta and Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa.

Arten Dovbyk’s move from Girona to Roma came in as the third most expensive Serie A signing this summer.
