Serie A round up: Roma sweep past title rivals Juventus | OneFootball

Serie A leaders Roma recorded a 3-1 victory in Sunday’s home meeting with second placed Juventus to extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points.

In addition to Roma’s successful outing, we will round up the four other matches that took place on matchday 15.

Sassuolo 2-0 Napoli

Despite missing two spot-kicks, Sassuolo were still able to clinch all three points in Saturday’s home meeting with Napoli. After playing out a goalless first half, Sassuolo took the lead in the 62nd minute when Martina Di Bari diverted the ball into her own net. Just moments later, Daniela Sabatino saw her penalty saved by Doris Bačić.

Sassuolo still managed to double their advantage, with Caroline Pleidrup heading home from Lana Clelland’s corner. Clelland spurned the chance to add a third from the penalty spot, but it mattered very little as the hosts saw out the remainder of the contest to claim a second straight victory.

AC Milan 2-2 Fiorentina

Milan’s Kamila Dubcová swept the ball home in the 15th minute to open the scoring in Saturday’s home fixture. Fiorentina quickly hit back through Madelen Janogy, who nodded in her fifth goal in the last three league matches. Forward Andrea Stašková restored Milan’s advantage before the half-time interval, producing a neat turn to create the space to fire past Rachele Baldi.

Unfortunately for the hosts, they were unable to hold on to their slender advantage as Laura Agard headed home from close range in the 51st minute to score against her former club. The draw leaves Milan in eighth position, while Fiorentina are in third place and just one point behind Juventus in second spot.

Inter 2-3 Como

Como ended their eight game winless run with a memorable away victory over Inter. Lina Magull dispatched her 27th minute spot-kick to give Inter a narrow lead. The host quickly hit back through January signing Zsanett Kaján. The Hungary international lifted the ball over Sara Cetinja to register her first goal since arriving on loan from Fiorentina.

Kajan found the net again in the opening stages of the second half, catching Cetinja offer guard to fire a long-range free-kick in at the near post. Although Michela Cambiaghi netted a near-instant equaliser, there was still plenty of time for Kajan to be involved in another Como goal. The 26-year-old lofted a ball to the far post for Julia Karlernäs to squeeze her header over the line. The win leaves Como in sixth position and five points behind Inter, who remain in fourth place.

Roma 3-1 Juventus

Roma quickly bounced back from their Champions League group stage exit to claim a crucial win over their title rivals. Manuela Giugliano kept her composure from the penalty spot to ensure the hosts took a slender lead into the half-time break.

As the contest moved past the hour mark, Evelyne Viens turned the ball home from Benedetta Glionna’s cross to double Roma’s advantage. Just six minutes later, Elena Linari produced an unstoppable strike from the edge of the box to put the game beyond Juventus’ reach. Lindsey Thomas came off the bench to net a late consolation, but it did little to dampen Roma’s celebratory mood.

Sampdoria 1-0 Pomigliano

Just like November’s reverse fixture, Sampdoria’s Taty scored the decisive goal to condemn her former side to a 1-0 defeat. The Brazilian reacted quickest to poke the ball home after Emilie Gavillet had fumbled Sara Baldi’s dipping effort.

The hosts kept Pomigliano at bay for the rest of the contest to claim their fifth win of the Serie A season. Meanwhile, the visitors remain in the relegation play-off spot, having failed to win any of their last seven matches.
