Serie A PREVIEW | Inter v Atalanta

Article image:Serie A PREVIEW | Inter v Atalanta

After clinching the Coppa Italia in their previous outing, Inter will aim to confirm their place in next season’s Champions League when they face Atalanta who are too endeavouring for a top-four finish.

Inter had the firepower and resiliency in them to make an emphatic comeback to secure their second title of the season. Nicolas Gonzalez gave Fiorentina the lead in the 3rd minute but a brace from in-form Lautaro Martinez later in the match handed the Nerazzurri the Coppa Italia title. With the win, Inter successfully defended the accolade after winning it last year.

Manager Simone Inzaghi has the opportunity to rise within the ranks of Jose Mourinho by becoming the first manager to win the Champions League for Inter since the Portuguese did it in 2010. It will be a gigantic fixture against Manchester City in the final in Istanbul and the team will aim to give their best in the last few league matches in order to stay buzzing for the final.

Meanwhile, Atalanta are only three points behind 4th-placed Milan and despite the lack of matches, they are hoping to secure a Champions League spot for next season. A win against Inter will provide them with massive inspiration and would accelerate their chances of getting a top-four finish.

Their recent back-to-back losses against Juventus and Salernitana took the wind out of the sails of La Dea and despite the circumstances, a Champions League spot for them is well within reach.
