The penultimate matchday of the 2021/22 Serie A season saw Cagliari hosting Inter at Sardegna Arena. As Milan had won their game against Atalanta earlier on Sunday, their city rivals needed a victory against the relegation dwellers to remain alive in what has been a gruelling title race for both Milan sides this season.

On the back of lifting Coppa Italia, Simone Inzaghi’s men were anticipated to struggle with excessive fatigue. But it did not appear to be the case, with Matteo Darmian’s towering header from Ivan Perisic’s cross drawing the first blood.
