Monza twice fought back to grab a 2-2 draw with Venezia, even after ending the game with 10 men for Warren Bondo’s dismissal.
Alessandro Nesta finally got his first win with a 3-0 away to Verona on Monday, but was still missing Stefano Sensi, Samuele Birindelli and Alessio Cragno, plus Daniel Maldini carrying a shoulder knock. No such luck for the Lagunari with five defeats in the last six games, who were without Marin Sverko and Bjarki Bjarkason, moving to a four-man defence.
Venezia took the lead when Gaetano Oristanio broke away and found Mikael Ellertsson to fire into the top corner, as Gianluca Busio’s run also created the space inside the penalty area.
Monza drew level when Georgios Kyriakopoulos cut inside Michael Svoboda down the left and bent a precise right-foot snooker shot into the far bottom corner.
Svoboda made up for that error, because he got on the end of the Magnus Kofod Andersen free kick at the back post and was given far too much space to steer the free header into the net.

Svoboda also did just enough to put Milan Djuric off on the Kyriakopoulos cross, but moments later the pair combined again, a through ball splitting the defence in two to send the striker clear to sweep in. Remarkably, this was Djuric’s third goal of the season and all were scored with his feet.
Stefano Turati made a fingertip save on the Busio angled drive, but it wouldn’t have counted over an earlier foul in the build-up.
Alessandro Bianco failed to make the most of a Danilo D’Ambrosio pull-back from the by-line, while Warren Bondo went down in the box and had penalty appeals rejected, as he lost his balance. Soon after, Bondo received another yellow card for an extremely high boot on Hans Nicolussi Caviglia, reducing Monza to 10 men.
Ellertsson 15 (V), Kyriakopoulos 23 (M), Svoboda 39 (V), Djuric 44 (M)
Sent off: Bondo 80 (M)
