Lazio rose to a 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona in Serie A on Monday evening, with all three goals coming inside the opening 20 minutes at the Stadio Olimpico.
Marco Baroni’s side came into the game having recorded one win, one draw and one loss after the first three matches before the international break, while Verona could have gone level with Napoli in second had they picked up a victory.
The scoring was opened after just five minutes in the capital. Mattia Zaccagni sent a searching ball forwards towards Boulaye Dia, who took a couple of neat touches just inside the area before dispatching a low effort past Lorenzo Montipo into the near corner of the net.
The lead lasted less than two minutes, however, as Diego Coppola slipped a ball through a sleeping pair of Lazio centre-backs, freeing Casper Tengstedt, who sent a routine finish past Ivan Provedel when one-on-one.
Lazio restored their lead just before the 20 minute mark. Zaccagni got his second assist of the evening from a corner, which landed at the feet of Taty Castellanos, who flung himself forwards before converting his improvised volley.
Three points for Lazio sends them up to sixth place in the Serie A table after the fourth round of Serie A fixtures, one point shy of Torino in fifth, and one off Monday’s opponents, Verona, in seventh.
