According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has emerged as a target for Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan.
The Nerazzurri are staring at the prospect of losing star defender Milan Skriniar this summer. The Slovakian international is closing in on a move to Tottenham Hotspur. (h/t Daily Mail)
And should that deal go through, Inter Milan will look to United’s Chris Smalling to replace the 25-year-old centre-back. (h/t Daily Mail)
Smalling has been with United for ten years now, but seems to be on his way out of the club. The 30-year-old spent the last season out on loan at AS Roma and has been leaning towards a permanent transfer to the Italian capital club. (h/t Daily Mail)
However, Roma haven’t been able to come to an agreement with Manchester United over a transfer fee, leading to negotiations getting dragged on. Due to this, the player is believed to have grown frustrated. (h/t Daily Mail)
But if a move to Roma fails to materialise, he might still end up moving to Italy, with Inter Milan now taking an interest in the Englishman. (h/t Daily Mail)
Manchester United have set an asking price of £18m for Smalling. The Englishman has been training away from the first-team since returning after his loan spell and is primed for an exit before the window closes.
The only question remains now is where the 30-year-old ends up, with both Roma and Inter keen on his services. Should he join Inter Milan, he will be joining former teammates Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young.
