Serie A Femminile round up: Juventus prosper as Roma falter | OneFootball

Juventus clinched a 4-2 victory over Como to make it two wins in two at the start of the 2024/25 Serie A season. However, reigning champions Roma experienced frustration as they played out a 1-1 draw for the second game in a row.

There were also successful outings for Inter and Fiorentina, as well as a close-fought contest between Sampdoria and Lazio. Here, we will round up all the action that took place on the second matchday of the new Serie A season.

Roma 1-1 Sassuolo

Roma have experienced a disappointing start to the season, drawing in both of their opening two games. The most recent of those two draws took place against Sassuolo on Saturday. Manuela Giugliano opened the scoring with an unstoppable free-kick in the 15th minute. However, just a minute later, Sassuolo responded with a sensation effort of their own. Lana Clelland latched onto a bouncing ball to send her long-range effort looping over Camelia Ceasar and into the net. Despite their best efforts, neither side could carve out a winner, ensuring they had to be content with a share of the spoils.

Juventus 4-2 Como

Como took a surprise fourth-minute lead in their Serie A away meeting with Juventus. Zara Kramžar collected the ball on the edge of the box before firing past an outstretched Pauline Peyraud-Magnin. Juventus produced an emphatic response courtesy of Arianna Caruso’s unstoppable effort. The midfielder drilled a long-range shot out of the reach of Astrid Gilardi. Hanna Bennison then netted her first Serie A goal to give Juventus a narrow lead.

Less than 10 minutes before halftime, Nadine Nischler whipped a powerful free-kick over the wall and past Peyraud-Magnin to send the two sides into the break on level terms. The hosts ultimately flexed their muscles in the second half as Valentina Bergamaschi and Paulina Krumbiegel both got on the scoresheet to clinch all three points.

AC Milan 1-2 Fiorentina

Fiorentina fought back from behind to clinch all three points in their away trip to Milan. Evelyn Ijeh required just three minutes to guide the ball home from Cecilie Fiskerstrand’s parry. Sofie Bredgaard produced a spectacular effort to pull the visitors back on level terms, thumping a volley past a helpless Laura Giuliani. Verónica Boquete then dispatched a 32nd-minute penalty to turn the contest in Fiorentina’s favour. Milan were unable to produce a response as they fell to a second straight defeat.

Sampdoria 1-1 Lazio

Sampdoria had to wait until the 72nd minute to break the deadlock in Sunday’s home meeting with Lazio. Finland international Nora Heroum headed home from a deep corner to score against her former club. Unfortunately for Sampdoria, they were unable to hold on to their slender advantage. Juventus loanee Federica D’Auria swept the ball in from close range to pull her side on level terms in the 84th minute. Sampdoria finished the contest with 10 players after Federica Cafferata was dismissed for fouling Noemi Visentin as she looked set to round the goalkeeper.

Napoli 1-4 Inter

Napoli took a slender lead into the break of their halftime clash with Inter following a moment of magic from Marija Banušić in first-half stoppage time. From the right side of the box, the 28-year-old curled a left-foot strike into the far corner to leave Inter with work to do in the second period. The visitors ultimately rose to the challenge as Michela Cambiaghi netted a 70th-minute equaliser before Tessa Wullaert found the net to put her side in front. There was still plenty of time for Inter to add to their tally thanks to an Annamaria Serturini header and a Matilde Lundorf own goal. The Nerazzurre celebrated a second straight win, while Napoli are still yet to claim their first points of the season.
