Serie A defender responds to Real Madrid transfer links: ‘Can’t help but smile’ | OneFootball

The past few months have seen Real Madrid linked with a move for a centre-back to no end and there is seemingly no quality defender in Europe who has not had his name in the Spanish media.

26-year-old Bologna defender Sam Beukema is one such player who has been linked with Los Blancos given the team’s deficiencies in the department, for he has been in fine form for the Serie A side.

The player already has five UEFA Champions League and 13 league starts for the Italian side this season and has overseen five clean sheets in that duration.

Speaking to the media earlier this week, Bologna centre-back Sam Beukema was asked to comment on the immense interest from Europe’s elite in his signing, including Real Madrid who have been linked with his name.

“I am very proud to play in this team and I am focused on doing my best. At the end of the season, it will be seen. Although it’s always nice to read that kind of message,” he said.

When asked in particular how he felt being linked with Los Blancos, the player did not hide his excitement, albeit with modesty.

“You can’t help but smile when you read something like that, but we’ll see at the end of the season. Now I just want to do the best possible with Bologna.”

Finally, he was asked to give his preview of Real Madrid’s upcoming match against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League.

“Atalanta has a very specific way of playing. They are very good at defending specific situations and have a lot of quality in attack.”

“It’s not easy to beat them. Their greatest danger is in attack. There is no doubt,” he added.
