Bologna clawed their way back from 2-0 down to ruin Como’s homecoming party at the Stadio Sinigaglia, as Santiago Castro and Samuel Iling-Junior wiped out Patrick Cutrone.

Both sides were looking for their first win of the season, but the hosts finally got to play at the restructured Stadio Sinigaglia. Raphael Varane and Federico Barba were out of action, while Emil Audero took over the gloves. The Rossoblu missed Nicolò Cambiaghi, Emil Holm, Lewis Ferguson and Oussama El Azzouzi, but also had to rest some players ahead of their Champions League opener with Shakhtar Donetsk.

It took five minutes to put Como in front, as Alieu Fadera sent Patrick Cutrone down the left, his roll across the six-yard box took a big deflection off Nicolò Casale to wrong-foot Lukasz Skorupski at the near post. Bologna protested that Riccardo Orsolini had gone down earlier in the move with a knock, but it was not a foul, nor a head injury.

Orsolini curled inches wide from the edge of the area, then Casale proved crucial by deflecting the Cutrone strike over the bar.

Cutrone saw his lob sail just over from an inspired Nico Paz pass, but there was confusion in first half stoppages when Bologna were awarded a penalty for Alberto Moreno’s handball, quickly revoked by VAR because it was outside the box.

Cutrone got the second goal all by himself when springing the offside trap on a through ball, cutting inside Juan Miranda and bending the right-foot finish into the far bottom corner from just inside the area.

There were technical problems with VAR communication for six minutes, while Strefezza and Fadera fired just wide in promising Como moves.

Bologna were unlucky to see the Tommaso Pobega left-foot strike bounce off the upright from distance, but did get back into the game when Odgaard’s effort was deflected into the path of Santiago Castro.

Andrea Belotti nodded a free kick wide of the far post for Como, but the missed opportunities came back to haunt them when Bologna equalised in stoppages.

Castro knocked down a long Pobega ball for Samuel Iling-Junior to control and curl into the far top corner with his left foot from inside the box, completing the Bologna comeback from 2-0 down.

There were nine minutes of added time due to the VAR issue, where Bologna poured forward with Miranda’s free kick deflected over.
