Atalanta’s stance on the future of star midfielder Teun Koopmeiners has become a focal point of discussions amid growing interest from top clubs, notably Liverpool and Juventus. In an exclusive interview with L’Eco di Bergamo, Atalanta director Luca Percassi has unequivocally stated the club’s position regarding Koopmeiners’ potential departure, sending a clear message to prospective suitors.
Percassi emphasized Atalanta’s stability and financial strength, underlining that the club is not compelled to offload key players like Koopmeiners. He asserted, “This club is solid and does not need to sell.” His remarks refute recent claims made by Koopmeiners regarding a desire to seek opportunities elsewhere, stating, “Koopmeiners has not been sold to Juve, nor anyone else. In fact, he never asked us to be sold.”
Koopmeiners’ meteoric rise in Serie A hasn’t gone unnoticed, with his impressive performances attracting attention from elite clubs across Europe. The Dutch international’s statistics speak volumes, with 22 goals and eight assists in all competitions over the past 18 months, showcasing his prowess in midfield.

Speculation surrounding Koopmeiners’ future intensified following reports of Liverpool’s interest in the midfielder. Amidst swirling rumours, Koopmeiners acknowledged the links with the Anfield outfit, stating, “I saw the links and stories about Liverpool. It’s nice to see.” This acknowledgment only added fuel to the transfer speculations.
In a recent interview with De Telegraaf, Koopmeiners provided insight into his future plans, revealing his intention to depart Atalanta in the upcoming transfer window. Despite expressing contentment with life in Italy, Koopmeiners hinted at a potential move to the Premier League, citing willingness to embrace new challenges. He expressed, “My girlfriend and I love life in Italy, but for some clubs in England, I’d be willing to tolerate the rain!”
While Koopmeiners’ departure seems imminent, Atalanta’s firm stance underscores their determination to retain key assets. The upcoming transfer window promises to be intriguing, with Koopmeiners’ future hanging in the balance. For now, the midfielder’s focus remains on his duties at Atalanta, but the allure of the Premier League remains strong.
