Transfer News: Napoli and Villarreal battle for Tottenham star Tanguy Ndombele

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Napoli have joined the race for out-of-favour French midfielder Tanguy Ndombele from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Villarreal are supposed to be interested in signing both Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso this summer. A move for the latter is more advanced but a move for the former midfielder is still in the works.

A talented midfielder, things have not worked out for Ndombele in a Spurs shirt. His time at N17 has been a disaster with him falling out with both Jose Mourinho and then Antonio Conte as well.

He was eventually loaned out for the second half of last campaign with the talented French midfielder plying his trade for Lyon. However, he did not really put in any performance that was noteworthy.

Ndombele joined Spurs from Lyon back in 2019. He was widely regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the world. However, we have seen his potential only on the rare occasion in a Spurs shirt.

Just 25 years of age, Ndombele is still very young and has a lot of quality in him. It is not clear as to why he couldn’t impress any of the managers here but he could still have a more than a decent career.

The 25-year-old played 30 times for both clubs across all competitions last season scoring three goals and providing three assists. Ndombele is a much better player than these stats suggest.

With a World Cup set to take place a few months down the line, Ndombele will want to get back to form as he finds himself on the fringes of the national team and will want to make a case to Didier Deschamps.
