Serie A | Bologna 0-0 Monza: Another setback

Bologna were held to a second consecutive 0-0 draw and now fourth place is at risk, as Michele Di Gregorio saves and poor finishing saw them unable to break Monza down.

The Rossoblu saw their run of eight wins in nine rounds surprisingly ended by a stalemate at Frosinone and seem to be slowing their incredible progress. Alexis Saelemaekers sat out a ban, with Jens Odgaard and Adama Soumaoro injured. Monza had Luca Caldirola suspended, Dany Mota Carvalho, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Jose Machin, Samuele Vignato and Gianluca Caprari sidelined, but Matteo Pessina returned from his ban. The visitors were coming off back-to-back defeats to Torino and Napoli.

Michele Di Gregorio had to fingertip an audacious Riccardo Orsolini free kick over the bar, then the goalkeeper had an even better save at full stretch after Orsolini had turned his marker to cut inside and curl it low towards the far bottom corner.

Joshua Zirkzee drilled wide from the edge of the area after sending two defenders down with different dummies, while Lewis Ferguson volleyed wide from a corner.

An acrobatic Andrea Colpani scissor-kick volley turned the Alessio Zerbin cross over the bar, while Di Gregorio rushed out to deny Ferguson when released by a smart disguised Orsolini pass.

Ferguson limped off after a heavy collision with Samuele Birindelli, while Orsolini was denied by Di Gregorio after a stunning take with the right boot to then shoot with his left.

Remo Freuler was sent clear on goal in a give and go only to drill wide of the near post, then Dan Ndoye also failed to find the target.
