Sergio Romero has joined Boca Juniors on a free transfer.

The Argentine shot-stopper is heading back to his homeland after spending one season at Italian side Venezia, making 16 appearances before leaving on a Bosman.

Romero has since signed a two-year deal at the biggest club in Argentina and he completes the move after being linked with a return to Manchester United.

United are on the lookout for a new back-up goalkeeper – a role Romero did well in for six years between 2015-2021. He made 61 appearances during that time as second choice keeper to David de Gea and kept an impressive 39 clean sheets.

Some reports state Romero had offers to return to the Premier League, but he decided to sign for Boca Juniors instead, as per Roy Nemer.

Dean Henderson wasn’t willing to spend another season on the bench, so he left to join Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan.

Lee Grant has also left the club this summer, which means our current No.2 is Tom Heaton and that won’t fill the manager with much confidence.
